About me
My name is Koen van Gilst and I studied Philosophy in Utrecht (The Netherlands) and Regensburg (Germany). After my studies I’ve worked as a freelance Dutch translator and journalist. In 2008 I moved to Munich (Germany) where I continued my work as a translator for companies as Deutsche Bahn, Audi, XING, Glen Dimplex and FriendScout24. I moved back to the Netherlands in 2010.
- End of 2010 Establishment in Utrecht.
- 2008-2010 Stay in Munich, where I worked as a freelance translator. I did technical translations, IT and website localisations, but also creative adaptations and copywriting. While in Munich I’ve worked for Germany’s major business networking website XING, Deutsche Bahn, for the world leader in electrical heating systems Glen Dimplex Germany and the car manufacturer Audi. I’m also responsible for the Dutch content of Europe’s largest dating service FriendScout24.
- 2008 Establishment of Van Gilst Translations in Munich.
- 2007 Worked as a freelance journalist. I’ve written about science, philosophy, traveling, health and technology. See my portfolio for some examples. My clients included major Dutch magazines, including AvantGarde, Intermediair and NL30.
- 2006-2007 Work as university teacher. I taught two university courses in philosophy at Utrecht University. Working with a colleague I developed and taught a course on the History of Morality for bachelor students. Later that year I also taught a course on Essay Writing for first year students..
- 2006 Master’s degree in Philosophy (cum laude) at the University of Utrecht.
- 2003 Erasmus Student Exchange (Universität Regensburg).
